Ghana star Andre Ayew says the team’s selected centre-backs for the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals have been challenged to excel in the absence of Isaac Vorsah and John Mensah.

The two key defenders were not named in the provisional 26-man because of fitness concerns.

Mensah, who recently joined Slovakian side FC Nitra, was in the treatment before the squad was named.

Vorsah of Austrian side Red Bull Salzsburg failed to win the fitness race after undergoing surgery last May to correct a knee problem.

Kwesi Appiah’s three central defenders to Brazil has only one with World Cup experience- Jonathan Mensah.

The Evian TG player featured in the last edition hosted by South Africa.

Ayew says having the two in camp would have been idle but remains confident those selected will meet expectations.

“We have a good group but we lack Isaac Vorsah and John Mensah who are injured. This was our hinge four years ago,” Ayew said.

“Young Mensah and John Boye have been part of the team for some time now and we have full confidence in every one.

“Everybody in the team played his way into the team and above all we trust in the coach.”

Ayew is set to appear in his second World Cup finals after making his debut in South Africa four years ago.
