West Brom watched Ghana international striker Majeed Waris for a third time at the weekend in his country's friendly against Holland.
The Baggies had a scout at the De Kuip Stadium in Rotterdam to assess Waris, 22, in Ghana's 1-0 defeat in which he came on as a 55th minute substitute.
Waris spent the second half of last season on loan to French Ligue 1 strugglers Valenciennes from Spartak Moscow, but his nine goals in 16 appearances were not enough to spare them from relegation.
West Brom and Hull City have been keeping a close watch over the former BK Hacken hitman in the past two months, while Newcastle United, Leicester City, Werder Bremen, Ajax and Everton have also been tracking him.
Albion scouts saw the striker score in Valenciennes' 2-1 home defeat to Lyon in early April and draw a blank against Bordeaux at the start of May.
The presence of the chief scout in Rotterdam on Saturday suggests Albion are seriously considering a move for the Ghanaian, who is under contract at Spartak Moscow until 2017 and could cost £5million.
