AC Milan boss offers striker a lifeline

After scoring just three goals in a disappointing return to AC Milan, coach Sinisa Mihajlovic has drawn comparisons with himself and forward Mario Balotelli.

The 25 year-old is due to return to Liverpool at the end of his loan spell at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, though neither side seem willing to offer the Italian a first team role. However the former Inter prodigy has managed to beguile his coach Mihajlovic, who insists he shares a lot in common with Balotelli.

“When I was Balotelli’s age, I was outspoken, I still am in some ways,” Mihajlovic told Sky Sport Italia.

“I’ve known Balotelli since he made his debut with Inter, he was a kid then and I have seen he’s changed, he is more mature; a man not a boy anymore.”

Mihajlovic reportedly requested the signing of Balotelli on loan back in January 2015, but poor work ethic and question body language on the field have marked his return to Italy.

“I wanted to talk to him and look into his eyes, he gave me the right impression and he’s a good guy but he must do more on the pitch,” Mihajlovic added.

Speculation continues to cast doubt over the future of Mihajlovic at Milan as well as Balotelli, as reports suggest Sassuolo boss Eusebio Di Francesco is lined-up as his replacement.

“I have a strong character, I was born in a country where you have to be tough and I thrive on the pressure,” Mihajlovic concluded.
