AC Milan goalkeeper happy with Coppa Italia win over Alessandria

Veteran AC Milan goalkeeper Christian Abbiati is happy that the Rossoneri were able to overcome a stubborn Alessandria in the first leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final on Tuesday.

A Mario Balotelli penalty was enough to secure a 1-0 win for the Serie A side in what proved to be a more challenging game than Sinisa Mihajlovic will have liked.

“The important thing was to win,” Abbiati told Rai Sport after the match.

“The Coppa Italia is one of our goals for this season, along with European qualification.”

Before concluding, the 38-year-old briefly discussed the upcoming Derby della Madonnina, which will see Milan host Inter at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

“We are motivated,” he said.

“We will do everything we can to end the game with all three points.”

In September’s reverse fixture, it was Inter who ran out as 1-0 victors.
