AC Milan midfielder expects a win against Inter

AC Milan midfielder Andrea Bertolacci expects to give city rivals Inter a tough test when the two sides do battle on Sunday evening in the 285th instalment of the Derby della Madonnina.

The reverse fixture saw the Nerazzurri emerge 1-0 victors, a result which Bertolacci finds unjust, according to the club’s official website.

“We did not deserve defeat last time, unfortunately one incident decided the match,” Bertolacci said.

“Sunday will be different because we are playing as the home side and we want to win for both ourselves and the fans.

“There is added importance to this match as we have drawn closer in the standings.”

According to the former Genoa man, poor fortune is the reason why Milan come into the match eight points back of their archrivals.

“We lost six or seven points in matches in which we deserved more, If we had taken the available points we would now be much higher up the table,” he noted.

Bertolacci has become a mainstay in the Milan lineup and the 25-year-old took a moment to address what both the Milan derby and the remainder of this season mean for him personally.

“This will be a first for me, as I was injured in the first leg,” he said.

“It will certainly be a beautiful moment.

“The next four months will be important for me, I want to bring Milan closer to the top and make myself deserving of a call to la Nazionale.”

Milan vice president Adriano Galliani recently stated that he is content with current makeup of the squad, a statement to which Bertolacci agrees.

“Galliani is right, when you look around the dressing room you see players with strong characters and individual talent,” he said.

“We lack a bit of luck but we have the skill to compete with the top teams.

“However, there is no alternative to playing as a team. Individuality may unlock a game but eleven players pulling in the same direction is the most important thing.”

When we play like Milan we have shown to be strong, we need to focus and maintain consistency to gain some momentum for the remainder of the season.”
