Accra stadium pitch 70% ready - Green Grass Technology boss Boahene claims
The National Sports Authority (NSA) says it is unable to raise 74, 400 cedis monthly to maintain the football pitch at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The deteriorating Accra stadium pitch is 70% complete, head of Green Grass Technology, Frank Boahene, has shockingly claimed.

The playing surface at Ghana’s capital, Accra has come under heavy criticism and has been described as ‘collapsed’ to underline the sorry nature of the pitch.

The surface looked particularly horrific for Hearts home game against All Stars as pressure mount on authorities to do something drastic to save the situation.

The Accra pitch has been in a mess over the past two years with the surface becoming an ugly thing and represents something of a rutted sandpit after being dried out by lack of water.

Many have been damning in their criticism of the pitch which continues to host mega entertainment shows in the West African country with music icons Samini, Shata Wale and Sarkodie making the headlines in most of the concerts.

Players have found it difficult to play on which forced the Ghana FA to shift the Black Stars 2014 World Cup qualifiers to Kumasi, Ghana’s second largest city.

Green Grass Technology, managers of the stadia pitches in Ghana, have been accused of producing sub-standard pitches in the West African country.

However the Ghanaian sports field experts have constantly rebuffed such suggestions claiming they have been starved off funds to make the pitches world-class.

The head of the firm, Frank Boahene, has claimed in the most astonishing manner that the Accra pitch in particular is 70% ready to host matches in the Ghanaian top-tier.

“The Accra stadium is 70% ready. I can tell you that. We just have to work on few touches,” he told Asempa FM.”

His assertion is likely to spark laughter and anger as the Accra pitch is far from being declared fit to host Premier League matches in the country.

The National Sports Authority (NSA) has said it is unable to raise 74, 400 cedis monthly to maintain the football pitch at the Accra Sports Stadium.
