Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has offered its deepest condolences to the family and friends of those who lost their lives during last week’s series of earthquakes and powerful aftershocks in Japan.

Nearly 50 people are now known to have lost their lives on the island of Kyushu following the tragic events which began to unfold on Thursday.

Some 170,000 households were without electricity and 385,000 without water following the devastating earthquakes which were centered around the Kumamoto Prefecture.

As ever in Asia’s time of need, the thoughts and prayers of the AFC and the rest of the Asian football community are with those who have suffered losses and been affected by the disaster.
