Agogo counting on Hibernian fans for survival

Hibernian star Junior Agogo has pleaded the case for his side's defence and asked fans to give their backing to help turn their season around.

The former Ghana striker admits they have conceded too many goals this season.

The Hibees have lost 21 in the SPL already and only the three teams below them in the table have a worse record.

However, Agogo saw green shoots of recovery at St Mirren Park as his side won 3-2 to move within a win of a place in the top six.

Agogo, 32, said: "If you look at our stats they show we're leaking goals, but we're working on that on a daily basis with the gaffer, Billy Brown and the coaching staff.

"We need the fans to be with us because we're working hard to progress in the league and cup.

"We're doing the best we can and we need the fans to stick with us and show their support because we're all in this together.

"At half-time against St Mirren the players were telling each other to dig deep because we all want to get ourselves out of the situation we find ourselves in.

"The gaffer is seeing in training we're beginning to look strong and sharp again, although maybe lack of concentration has cost us at times during games.

"However, we know what we're capable of achieving. We have to cut out the easy goals and although it's frustrating at times, we're working hard."

It looked like the same old story for Hibs after Leigh Griffiths slotted them in front, only to lose two quick-fire goals to Paul McGowan. But Hibs fired back with another strike from Griffiths and a header from Sean O'Hanlon.

Agogo added: "We were disappointed with our display last week against Motherwell.

"We wanted to show the fans against St Mirren just how committed we are to the cause. The result is also a confidence boost before the League Cup tie against Celtic on Wednesday night."
