Al Ain coach Olaroiu steps to Gyan's defence

Al-Ain coach Cosmin Olaroiu has launched a scathing attack on Ghanaian fans for criticising Asamoah Gyan for his penalty miss at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.

The 26-year-old has become the subject matter of Ghana's disappointing Nations Cup run after missing a first half spot-kick in the semi-final defeat to Zambia.

The miss adds to the striker's unfortunate catalogue of penalty kicks with the infamous miss against Uruguay at the 2010 World Cup at the quarter final stage readily coming to mind.

However, Gyan marked his returned to the UAE Pro League with a goal in Al Ain's 2-0 win over FC Dubai to extend their lead on the league table.

And the club's Romanian manager Olaroiu says Ghanaians' criticism of Gyan is illogical.

"It is illogical to condemn a player like Gyan for missing a penalty kick. I believe in him so I will choose him for any penalty kick we have." he said.

Gyan has scored 14 goals in all competitions for Al-Ain since joining them on a season-long loan deal from Sunderland in September.
