Alli rescues late draw forTottenham against Watford amid VAR confusion

Dele Alli rescued a 1-1 draw for Tottenham against bottom side Watford with a goal which caused confusion due to complications with the video assistant referee (VAR).

The VAR was having a closer look after it appeared Alli had controlled the ball with his arm but, although the big screen indicated the decision to award the equaliser had been overturned, it had in fact been given as a goal

Abdoulaye Doucoure's sixth-minute goal had appeared enough to earn the visitors a huge three points which would have lifted them off the bottom of the table, but Alli's late strike ensured the two sides shared the points.

Tottenham came into this match on the back of a 3-0 loss away at Brighton, having previously been beaten 7-2 at home to Bayern Munich and eliminated by League Two Colchester United in the Carabao Cup.

And their terrible run continued here as they mustered just one shot on target. Watford, meanwhile, are still without a Premier League win all season.

The result leaves Tottenham five points behind fourth-place Manchester City, who travel to Crystal Palace in the late kick-off. Watford stay bottom.
