Ghana utility player Andre Ayew scored his third of the week for Marseille on Sunday but they could only manage to take a point in 1-1 at home to Brest in France.

Marseille captain Steve Mandanda, who has saved his side from defeat several times this season, allowed Romain Poyet's innocuous-looking 20-metre shot slip under him and into the back of the net in the 5th minute.

The goal was Brest's first away from home this season, but it was soon cancelled out by Marseille in-form forward André Ayew.

The Ghana international had just the simplest of tap-ins after France striker Loïc Rémy had beaten Steeve Elana and offered Ayew the open goal.

The son of legend Abedi Pele scored twice for his club in mid-week.

Last season's runners-up Marseille, in fine form in the Champions League but floundering in Ligue 1.

Their 1-1 at home with Stade Brest leves them 13th on the table after nine games.
