Former Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan is understood to be broke

Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan's recent marital problems and its attendant money issues have gone global with top media outlets in the world reporting that the Ghana skipper has gone broke.

The story that started as a local family issues court report has now taken a global dimension with serious damaging consequences for the iconic international football superstar.

One of the world's biggest circulating newspaper the Sun as well as the Mirror in England have carried major headlines of the story as well as other dailies in the United States, China, Germany, France and Italy.

The Turkish newspapers have not been left out of the action as they have also reported on the issue that the striker who plays in their top-flight is reportedly broke and has just £600 in his bank account.

Gyan, who made 37 appearances for Sunderland after making a £13million move to England, currently plays for Kayserispor in Turkey.

However, the 33-year-old insists he is not being paid and claims he has spent the millions of pounds he's earned throughout his career.

Gyan has lived lavishly during the years, spending serious money on clothes, jewellery and cars yet he's now struggling to make ends meet.

"My front and back, up and down is that money (£600) you see there," Gyan said.

The Ghana captain left the Black Cats to join UAE club Al Ain in 2012 after impressing on loan.

He smashed 123 goals in 120 games before a lucrative move to Shanghai SIPG of the Chinese Super League.

Gyan joined Shabab Al-Ahli Dubai but he returned to Turkey last year where his fortunes have nosedoved.

It is claimed the forward hasn't had contact with his wife Gifty or three children since August and is not returning their phone calls.

Gyan met his wife of six years back in 2002 but it is understood he has requested an annulment in order to marry socialite Nina Atalah.

His three children are due to travel to Ghana from England for a DNA test, requested by the player's older brother, Baffuor.
