Defender Jonathan Quartey has been linked with a return to his boyhood club Ashantigold.

The 23-year-old is looking for new employers after he was released by French outfit Nice in January due to lack of playing time.

The former Kaizer Chiefs and Samsunspor strong centre-back is also reported to be on the radar of Ghanaian Champions Asante Kotoko but is being courted by his former club.

The miners have remained quiet in the transfer market but sources say officials of the club have made initial contact with the player over the possibility of re-launching his career at the Obuasi-based club.

Ashgold are confident of winning Sunday’s MTN Ghana FA cup finals against New Edubiase and have therefore set their eyes on recruiting quality players for their potential involvement in next year’s CAF Confederation Cup.

Kotoko are also believed to be monitoring the situation as he is seen as a perfect replacement for Awal Mohammed who has joined South African side Maritzburg.

The former Ghana Under-17 star has nine caps for Ghana and his last call-up for the Black Stars was in November 2009 when they played Mali in the 2010 World Cup qualifiers.
