ATLÉTICO MADRID -

Published on: 13 March 2016

Atlético Madrid proved that they are determined to keep things exciting in La Liga by beating Deportivo (3-0) following Barcelona's bulldozing of Getafe (6-0).

In a rather unremarkable game with goals by Saúl Ñiguez in the first half and Antoine Griezmann and Ángel Correa in the second, Atlético kept themselves in the wake of the leaders, who hold an eight-point advantage. With nine games to play and 27 points on offer, Diego Simeone's men increased the pressure on Real Madrid, who are third and seven points behind with a game in hand, as well as maintaining a faint hope of capitalising on any future slip-ups by Barcelona.

Deportivo, who have not won since 19th December, barely troubled Atlético. As usual, the Madrilenians played a highly physical game, were extremely well organised at the back and dominated in the middle of the park. With their presence or lack thereof in the Champions League quarter-finals to be decided on Tuesday against PSV, the 'Rojiblancos' produced a seldom seen drubbing at the Vicente Calderón to keep their league title hopes on the boil.
