Australia's Simon grounded by hamstring injury

Antalya: Kyah Simon has departed Australia's pre-FIFA Women’s World Cup training camp in Turkey after suffering a recurrence of a hamstring injury, the

Simon, who had been training in Antalya with the Matildas on standby in the lead up to this year’s Women’s World Cup in France, will return to her club in the United States, Houston Dash, to commence her rehabilitation.


“This is an unfortunate setback for Kyah,” Matildas Head Coach Ante Milicic said. “Kyah has worked hard this week and shown a lot of positivity around the group.

“We will continue to monitor her progress and hope she can return to the pitch soon to put her best foot forward ahead of our Olympic Games campaign.”

Australia will remain on Turkey’s southern coast until late this week, when they will travel to Eindhoven for their final pre-tournament friendly against European champions the Netherlands on June 1.

The Matildas, drawn in Group D, open their 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup campaign against Australia on June 9. They then face Brazil (June 13) and Jamaica (June 18).
