Champions Kumasi Asante Kotoko have already proven their title credentials with their smooth run so far, but they face a real test in Bechem United at Bechem on Sunday as the Premier League reaches the seventh week.

Rather than one of the supposed big sides in the league, it is Bechem United who pose a threat to Kotoko’s cruise as they host the Porcupine Warriors in an interesting fixture.

It is this clash that has received the attention of a top liner on account of Bechem’s form at home and Kotoko’s impressive run.

Such is the twists and turns of the league that even Hearts of Oak’s tough trip to Kpando where they visit Heart of Lions now ranks second to what ordinarily would have been considered an easy ride for Kotoko.

Since returning to the top flight this season, Bechem have shown consistency until Hearts pipped them in a closely-fought contest two weeks ago. That loss remains the only setback in their six games so far.

After restoring their three-point with a 2-1 win over Hasaacass yesterday inan outstanding match, Kotoko are poised to fight to hold onto the top post.

But Sunday provides its own challenge in the shape of determined Bechem United whose young squad have almost wiped out from memory the poor decut of the club in their previous and only stint in the Premier League three years ago.

In acting skipper Michael Akuffo, midfield man Jordan Opoku, strikers Seidu Bancey and Yahaya Mohammed and goalkeeper Isaac Amoako, Kotoko have a frightening line-up that has acquired great experience too.

But all of Kotoko’s arsenal faces the technical scheming of Milisav Bogdanovic, the coach from Montenegro who has transformed Bechem United into a force in the league, while skipper James Yeboah provides leadership.

The thought will be whether or not they risk surrendering the top spot to Hearts whose striker, Gilbert Fiamenyo, is visiting his former club for the first time.

Fiamenyo has become key to the Phobian’s ambitions this term since recovering fully from a nagging injury, and he will be the chief tormentor of his old squad when the two sides meet.

In other matches, King Faisal will play Medeama SC in Kumasi tomorrow, while Hasaacas play Inter Allies at Sekondi.

Chelsea welcome New Edubiase United to Berekum, Liberty entertain Aduana Stars in Accra, Ashantigold host Ebusua Dwarfs at Obuasi.

Amidaus Professionals take on All Stars at Tema, all on Sunday.
