Ghana Premier League side Berekum Chelsea have been knocked out of the Viarreggio Cup after a 5-3 penalty shootout defeat Genoa at the quarterfinals round.

Genoa fetched the opener in the 21st minute through Bianchi before John Attuquaye pulled parity in the 48th minute to take the match to penalty shootouts.

The Blues missed two of their kicks and failed to save any of their opponent’s as they exit the tournament.

The Berekum-based outfit secured qualification to the knockout stage after crushing Italian side Carrarese Calcio by 4-1 before picking a solitary win over Spezia after losing 1-0 to AC Milan in their opening game of the tournament.

They then walloped Brazilian side Club Athletico Paranaense to pick a quarter final ticket but have been crushed by Italian side Genoa.

Chelsea made history at the tournament after becoming the first African side to reach the quarterfinals stage of the competition.
