Bielsa relieved to extend record

Published on: 19 August 2018

Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa admitted his side had not been at their best on Saturday in the 2-0 derby victory over Rotherham United.

Second-half goals from Luke Ayling and Kemar Roofe made it four wins out of four for Leeds who are 13/8 to be promoted this season.

However, Bielsa accepted that the Millers, 11/10 to be relegated from the Championship in 2018/19, were the better side in the first half and could easily have been ahead at the interval.

"The problems we had during the first half were more linked to our own goal," said Bielsa. "The first half would have been better if Rotherham didn't have the offensive action that they had.

"We built too much from the back, it was not easy for us to go from a defensive position to an offensive one. Unlike the two first games, this looked more like a Championship game.

"We could have ended the first half conceding goals, Rotherham had three clear moments where they could have scored a goal and these actions were provoked by the mistakes we made.”
