Former Black Stars coach, Kwesi Appiah has disclosed in an interview that his successor Charles Kwabla Akonnor consulted him before he was handed the job.

Akonnor was named as new head coach of the Black Stars on Wednesday by the Ghana Football Association.

The former Ghana International was recently appointed as the assistant coach of the Black Stars by Kwesi Appiah during Ghana’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa and Sao Tome.

According to Kwesi Appiah, Akonnor came home to inform him about the role he was to be given.

“He came home to have conversation with me and I think it's a very good thing, some of us will provide him with any support or advice he needs, because Black Stars is not for only one person", he told FOX FM.

The Ghana Football Association failed to renew Kwesi Appiah’s contract after it expired on 31 December, 2019.
