Ghana's Yartey set to join Sochaux on Friday

Ghana midfielder Ishmael Yartey will arrive in France on Friday to join top-flight Sochaux, MTNFootball.com can exclusively reveal.

The 22-year-old will undergo medicals on Friday morning before the deal is sealed.

Yartey will sign a four-year contract  worth $5m if he goes through the medicals successfully.

“Benfica and Sochaux have reached an agreement in principle on the transfer fee for Ishamel Yartey to join us,” a top Sochaux official told MTNFootball.com.

This comes after the French Ligue 1 won the race to sign the hugely-talented left winger from Portuguese giants Benfica.

The 22-year-old, who was loan to Swiss side Servette last season, was being pursued by French clubs Lille, Marseille, Dutch club AZ Alkmaar and German side Borussia Monchengladbach.

But Sochaux, boosted by the cash from Modibo Maiga’s transfer to West Ham United, gave a better offer which prompted Benfica to agree to the deal tabled by the French.

He will be signed as a replacement for Maiga who was the club’s playmaker before he left for the English Premier League this week.

Yartey scored eight goals for Servette last season.

The midfielder will be the first Ghanaian to play for Sochaux.
