Asante Kotoko coach Charles Akonnor has called on his fringe forwards to step up in the absence of Sogne Yacouba for the must-win clash against ZESCO United on Sunday.

Yacouba, who has the live-wire for the Porcupine Warriors, will miss the vital encounter against the Zambian giants through suspension.

But coach Akonnor has called up Obed Owusu, Frederick Boateng, Teguy and Fatawu Mohammed for the showdown in Ndola.

Though the former Ghana international concedes that the loss of the Bukinabe international is a big blow, he has charged the remaining four forwards to take advantage of the situation in order to etch their names in the club’s folklore.

“It’s a fact Yacouba is very instrumental in the way we approach the game and how we attack.

“But is a big advantage for those who have not been playing. They have to take the chance and show what they can do,” Akonnor charged.

“Whoever is given the chance should be able to fit in. If you are not able to take advantage, then it’s clear that you don’t fit in the kind of system we play,” he warned.

“They have all been here for a while. This is an opportunity for them to take advantage,” he emphasized.

A win for Kotoko will automatically grant them a place in the quarterfinals of the competition.
