CAF Confederation Cup: Coton Sport capo Fernando Sadou bemoans officiating in Asante Kotoko defeat

Published on: 21 January 2019

Coton Sport de Garoua president Fernand Sadou has lamented on officiating in their defeat against Asante Kotoko in the CAF Confederation Cup playoff.

Kotoko completed the double over the Cameroonian Champions after a 2-1 victory at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Sunday.

Captain Amos Frimpong converted a penalty on the stroke of half time before Maxwell Baakoh doubled their lead in the 53rd minute to effectively killed the tie.

The visitors reduced the deficit through Oumar Sali in the 81st minute but C.K Akunnor’s men held on to take the win.

The result meant that Kotoko have finally secured a long awaited progress to the Group stage of CAF’s second tier competition for the first time since 2008.

In an interview with Accra-based Happy FM, Mr. Fadou believes his outfit were frustrated in the match by Cape Verdean referee Fabricio Duarte.

"The referee was not good yesterday. He gave us a lot of yellow cards. The penalty he awarded to Kotoko was not a penalty," Mr. Sadou stated on Happy FM.

"All the goals Kotoko scored yesterday weren’t good goals. We are going to make an official complaint about officiating but we wish Kotoko all the best and good luck."
