Can a Premier League side finally land the Champions League for the first time since 2012?
Manchester City have been strong in recent years

English Premier league football is certainly going through a purple patch with viewing figures higher than ever, and many of the sides continuing to attract some of the biggest names in the world.

Last season Liverpool reached the final of the Champions league looking to end the wait for a Premier league side to again land Europe’s major competition.

They eventually came up short to Real Madrid, so what are the chances of the trophy going back to England this season?

Prior to a ball being kicked many people’s favourites for the competition were Manchester City. There was a genuine feeling from tipsters around the globe that City would be difficult to beat, and a price of 9/2 with many bookmakers meant that the Manchester club considered good value with tipsters.

The current odds make them the 3/1 favourites, despite their current stuttering form. Manchester City have now been drawn against German outfit, Schalke, and it will be a major shock were they to fail to progress through, with many champions league predictions still pointing towards the Citizens.

The tipsters at SportyTrader talk about the importance of keeping top players fit when predicting a football match, so the return of Aguero and de Bruyne to full fitness will only further back their claim.

Last season’s Champions League runners up Liverpool have kicked off the current campaign in ominous form. They sit clear at the top of the Premier league table as the only team yet to taste defeat. This means they are just the fourth side in history to reach this half way stage undefeated.

Liverpool also progressed through a tough looking Champions’ League group that included both PSG and Napoli. This means they now face off against European powerhouses Bayern Munich, who themselves are on a fantastic run of form, following their poor start to the current campaign.

This is a very tough tie to call, but if able to progress through, would make Liverpool one of the favourites to lift the title.

Tottenham are another English side who are on a strong run of form and are also now challenging for the Premier league title. They looked to be heading out of the competition following their poor start, but late wins over PSV and Inter Milan gave them hope heading into the last fixture.

This was an away trip to Barcelona, in which they again left it late to draw 1-1, which was enough for them to progress through. Tottenham have now been drawn against Borussia Dortmund, in another blockbuster draw of the round of 16.

Manchester United are the fourth Premier league side to have progressed through to the knockout stages of the competition. They are having a difficult season but have now found some form following Mourinho’s departure.

United have been drawn against PSG, who are one of the favourites for the competition, so they have a very tough task if they are to progress through to the last eight.
