Video: Sunderland Vice-Chairman David Miliband On Asamoah Gyan's Move To Al Ain

Published on: 27 June 2012

Sunderland vice-chairman David Miliband says the deal that allowed Asamoah Gyan to leave on loan benefited the club.

Gyan left the club for a season-long deal with U.A.E side Al-Ain in September 2011.

It was a record-breaking deal at the time with the loan fee reported as £6m.

Gyan joined Sunderland in August 2011 and scored 11 goals in his first season with the club.

Miliband said that: "So far, the arrangement has worked to both benefit.

"With Asamoah Gyan wanting to go to take up this opportunity and you want to make sure that the people that are here are absolutely committed to the club."
