Ghana midfielder Sulley Muntari hopes to make a quicker-than-expected recovery after undergoing surgery to correct a serious knee injury.

The AC Milan ace picked up the problem during playing football with friends on holiday in his native Ghana.

Doctors expected the Ghana star to return to action in the next six months; ruling him out for the first half of the season.

But the 27-year-old is remaining positive of an earlier return.

''I'm not saying I'll recover in a couple of days and I know I can’t push myself too far, but I will be back soon. January? Earlier,'' Muntari told Gazetta Dello Sport.

"In any case, the club has stood beside me and will wait for my complete recovery."

Muntari was handed a permanent deal by the Rossoneri after impressing on loan from rivals Inter Milan.

He is bemoaning the nature of the injury.

"It is the first major injury of my career, I have been quite lucky really. I was playing football with my friends, not on the beach though-I don't go the beach, I can't swim," he said.

"It was a normal pitch. I could have picked up an injury playing for the national team, instead it happened in these circumstances. It hurt and so I immediately called Milan.

"Is Adriano Galliani angry with me? He has every right to be, but I know my body and what its reaction will be: I will be back soon. "

Muntari scored three goals in 13 Serie A appearances.
