Chelsea keen to sign AC Milan starlet defender

Premier League side Chelsea are allegedly after AC Milan’s young defender Alessio Romagnoli, considering him to be the ideal substitute for the outgoing Blues captain John Terry.

The Rossoneri purchased the defensive starlet from Roma for a fee in the region of €25 million this summer.

According to the Daily Star, Chelsea are preparing a bid of about €40 million to sign Romagnoli, to fill the void that will result from Terry’s departure and provide competition for Gary Cahill and Kurt Zouma.

The Blues are considering an investment in Romagnoli alongside other defensive options, such as Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane and Everton’s John Stones.

Both Stones and Varane are likely to be valued at over €50 million, so Abramovich’s side could go for the young Italian.

The 21-year-old Romagnoli has accumulated 27 appearances with Milan since he joined the Rossoneri side in the summer.
