Chelsea’s Ji So-yun named in PFA Team of the Year

Published on: 22 April 2016

London: Korea Republic international Ji So-yun has been rewarded for her fine displays for Chelsea once more after being named in the PFA Team of the Year for the FA Women’s Super League (WSL) 1.

It is the second time the 25-year-old has received the accolade following her debut appearance last season, which she earned after leading the Blues to both the league title and FA Women’s Cup.

The Team of the Year, which is based on votes from the players in WSL, was announced on Thursday and saw Ji take her spot on the right wing.

Nonetheless, she will be hoping for even more joy this Sunday when the PFA announces their Women’s Players’ Player of the Year award.

Ji is in the running to win the title for the second consecutive season, but will face stiff competition from Chelsea team-mates Hedvig Lindahl and Gemma Davidson, Manchester City attacker Izzy Christiansen and Sunderland’s hot prospect Beth Mead.

Since earning her first international cap at 15, Ji has already established herself as one of the best players in South Korean football.

After beginning her professional career in Japan with INAC Kobe Leonessa, she then joined Chelsea in 2014, where she played a pivotal role in the club becoming the first side to ever win the double of the WSL 1 and the Women’s Cup.

Ji, the all-time top scorer for Korea Republic, was in action for the Blues on Thursday as they beat local rivals Arsenal 2-0 to move top of the table.
