Cherries fight to keep Fraser

Published on: 15 June 2019

Bournemouth say they want to secure Ryan Fraser's future with a new deal in the face of reported interest from Arsenal.

The 25-year-old was a key part of another impressive season from Eddie Howe's team last term.

The Scottish winger, who has been with the Cherries since 2013, scored seven goals and provided 13 assists as Bournemouth stayed well clear of relegation trouble all season, finishing in 14th spot.

Quite simply, Ryan is a fantastic player and an integral part of our squad.

The club is keen to keep Fraser who has just a year of his contract remaining. A new deal is on the table but Fraser said no talks over his future have taken place recently.

He told the Scotsman: "It was six or seven months ago that we last spoke about my future, but nothing since.

"Even in the end-of-season meeting I had with the manager [Eddie Howe], we didn't speak about my future."

However, Bournemouth chief executive Neill Blake insisted that the club wanted to keep Fraser and said talks had been paused to allow him to concentrate on his football.

He said on the club's website that he had made it clear to Fraser and his representatives that the contract offer is still on the table.

"Quite simply, Ryan is a fantastic player and an integral part of our squad," he added.

"We look forward to welcoming Ryan back to us next month after a well-earned break, upon which he can focus on having another standout season for AFC Bournemouth."

Bournemouth have pre-season games arranged against West Brom and Brentford away and then a home game with Lazio ahead of the new Premier League season.

The Cherries start the new campaign at home to promoted Sheffield United and are 3/4 to get three points straight away with the Blades 10/3 and the draw 3/1.

Bournemouth are 7/2 to finish in the top half of the league next season with Sheffield United priced at 12/1.
