Chidiac joins Atlético Madrid

Published on: 15 July 2018

Chidiac, an intelligent attacking midfielder and one of Australia's best young prospects, will appear for the Madrid-based club in Spain's Primera División. Atlético will also take part in the 2018/19 UEFA Women's Champions League, providing the South Australian with high-level experience ahead of the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup in France.

The Matildas youngster revealed her delight at seeing the dream move completed.

"I am very excited. I'm going to start a new chapter in my life," she told the club's official website.

"I want to continue growing in the world of football and develop my football skills on the road. It has always been one of my goals to play in Spain and I am very happy that it is with Atlético.

"Playing together with some of the best players in Spain is incredible and I am honored to join the team. It is a dream come true," she concluded.

The move is the latest success in what has been a memorable year for Chidiac. She scored her first senior international goal against Thailand in March, and started in two of Australia's matches at the 2018 AFC Women's Asian Cup in Jordan.

Earlier this week she played a key role in the Australian U-20 national team's second-place finished at the AFF Women's Championship in Indonesia, scoring seven goals.

Chidiac also earned praise for her performances at last year's AFC U-19 Women's Championship in China PR, where she started four of Australia's matches and scored three goals.

Australia's next step on the road to France 2019 is the US-based Tournament of Nations, with the Matildas - who are defending last year's title - to open their campaign with a meeting against Brazil on July 26.
