CONTE AHEAD OF THE #DERBYMILANO: "A SPECIAL MATCH, WE'RE AIMING FOR THE BEST"

Published on: 20 September 2019

It’s one of the most important times of the year for the Nerazzurri fans. It’s almost time for the #DerbyMilano. AC Milan vs. Inter kicks off at 20:45 CEST at the Stadio Meazza. Ahead of the local derby, Antonio Conte spoke at the pre-match press conference at the Suning Training Centre.

“Every derby is special, the one tomorrow will be too. We’re facing Milan who are a very good side. We’ll look to prepare for the game at our best, like always. We’re always looking for the best, with effort we can achieve it at times and not so much at other times. The guys are certainly always putting in lots of effort. There’s a lot of work to do, we need to improve but we’re not afraid of this.”

“We’ll be up against a Giampaolo side. He’s a Coach who’s paid his dues. Like me, he’s a prepared Coach and obsessed about football and he deserves to be a part of this great occasion. Obviously, it will be a tough match but I always want to win. Wins bring enthusiasm and positivity. On Tuesday, Slavia showed that they were a strong side. We lacked a certain amount of Champions League experience. We need to understand where we went wrong. Ours is a project for growth, but it’s not just all about the pitch. We need to improve and grow on the pitch but also in different situations off the pitch also. You win that way.”

Conte then discussed the current situation with the squad: “We have lots of players who still haven’t played in a competitive match. Lazaro came on at a crucial moment to make his debut. We have an idea, we’re working and looking to keep everyone involved. Brozovic is having an excellent start to the season, he can still improve a lot and become one the strongest around. With Candreva, he took a knock to the back but we have time to evaluate him and see how he is. Lukaku is fine. With Sanchez, he’s working well and making big steps. He could add some experience and ruthlessness.”
