CONTE: "WE NEED TO BE AN AMBITIOUS TEAM"

Published on: 19 July 2019

On the eve of Inter’s opening match in the 2019 International Champions Cup against Manchester United at the National Stadium in Singapore, Antonio Conte answered questions from journalists in his pre-match press conference: "An important match awaits us. At this level, it's difficult to see it as just a friendly and it will also be the same for them," he said. "Our pre-season is going well, I hope to see improvements in my team game after game.

"Lukaku? He’s a Manchester United player. I know him very well and I like him, but he’s not our player and I don’t like talking about players who are under contract at other teams. Tours are demanding because they involve facing great sides like Manchester United, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain.

"Our pre-season was already in place, we can’t hide away: as regards the market, there are still situations regarding relatively important incomings and outgoings and we’re slightly behind on certain things. Perisic? He’s a player with specific characteristics and I want to understand if he'll be able to play in the position that I have in mind. We've got time to assess him and understand if he'll be able to do what I want from him.

"We’ve set off again with great enthusiasm ready for a new chapter and era with a glorious Club. There can be difficulties at the beginning and we are slightly behind on the schedule that we set ourselves. As regards incomings and outgoings, we prepared things very clearly. It's difficult to predict the market, but we need to streamline and create a group. We have the same vision as the Club and I’m confident, even if I expected us to be further ahead than we are now.

"We need to be an ambitious team, but we can’t predict the future. We work hard to remain true to the ambition we have, it doesn’t matter if it falls into place in a week or two".
