Asante Kotoko midfielder Maxwell Baakoh is set to undergo surgery on Monday in Kumasi, the club have confirmed.

The diminutive winger has been playing through the pain barrier since arriving at the club from Karela United before the start of the

He has been suffering from a stress fracture in his left shin.

''We examined him sometime back and found that he had a stress fracture. We also identified that it was hugely manageable. It appears we can no longer manage it now so he has to undergo surgery,'' team doctor Christiana Baah told Kotoko Express.

''Baakoh has been playing with pain and that has had a toll on him- that's on his psyche and his performance. But he would be stronger after the surgery.

''The pain of having to play with an injury would be no more. This would improve his game.''

Baku will be up for up to six months, including eight weeks for recovery and another 12 weeks for rehabilitation and match fitness.
