Danny Welbeck still considering playing for Ghana

Striker Danny Welbeck says he would consider snubbing England to play for Ghana as he has not been completely tied by the Three Lions.

The 20-year-old made his senior England debut against the Black Stars when the two sides clashed in Tuesday's friendly at Wembley.

But Fifa regulations make it possible for him to play for Ghana as Welbeck’s debut match is only a friendly.

The Manchester United striker has been at the centre of a tug-of-war between England, where he was born, and Ghana, his parents' homeland.

With strikers like Wayne Rooney, Andy Carroll, Darren Bent, Jermaine Defoe, Peter Crouch still available for England he could end up rotting on the Three Lions bench.

Welbeck wasn’t completely sure whether he has ended his chances of playing for Ghana after playing in the friendly against the Black Stars

But Ghana reporters at the game confirmed to him that he can still play for Ghana according to Fifa regulations.

“If the Fifa regulations permit me to be eligible for Ghana I will definitely have to think about that,” Welbeck told Ghanaian reporters at Wembley.

"Asamoah Gyan and John Mensah, my team-mates at Sunderland, have been in my ear, saying 'Come and play for Ghana'.

Until he plays in an official FIFA competitive match, he remains eligible to turn out for Ghana.
