Ghana defender David Addy is on his way to full recovery after returning to training earlier this week.

The 22-year-old suffered a thigh strain last week during FC Porto’s pre-season tour of Switzerland.

The 2009 U-20 World Cup winner was initially feared to have sustained a muscle tear in his left thigh but further tests revealed the injury was not serious and that he should be back in action within two weeks.

Addy however returned to personal training on Monday with the club’s physios closely monitoring his progress.

He has been handed the green light to join the squad in full scale training on Friday in preparation for a pre-season friendly against Spanish outfit Celta de Vigo on Saturday.

The weekend’s warmup game might however prove too soon for the left-back who spent last season on loan in Greece with Panetolikos.

He is however expected to figure prominently in Porto’s next friendly game against Santa Clara next Wednesday.

The former Randers FC player’s return also serves as a massive boost for Ghana as the Black Stars prepare to take on Malawi in the final qualifier for the 2013 Nations Cup in September.
