De Ligt voices Barca doubts

In-demand Ajax centre-back Matthijs de Ligt has voiced his doubts about whether this summer is the right time to join Spanish giants Barcelona.

The 19-year-old Netherlands international has been the subject of interest from a number of major European clubs after helping Ajax to a domestic double, as well as reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Maybe it's not the time yet (to join Barca),

However, De Ligt has now admitted that he is still weighing up his options ad opting to head to the Nou Camp is far from being a certainty.

He told Mundo Deportivo: "Maybe it's not the time yet (to join Barca), it's something I have to think about and decide during the holidays.

"Of course Barca has great defenders, but the competition is not something that scares me. It is logical and normal that in a great club such as Barca there is competition.

"For me, the most important thing is to know that in the team where I go I can have prominence and play many games."

De Ligt, who made his international debut at the age of 17, has already racked up well over 100 appearances for Ajax in all competitions, as well as winning 16 caps for the Netherlands national team.

The Oranje are 10/1 to triumph at Euro 2020, with Germany priced at 8/1 and Belgium 7/1.
