Ghana striker Derek Asamoah aided his Korean side Pohang Steelers to clinch qualification to the 2012 AFC Champions League on Saturday.

Asamoah played for 81 minutes before he was replaced by Jo Chan Ho with the tie already settled at 2-0 against Thai Premier League runners up Chonburi FC.

Hwang Jin-Sung opened the scoring on 28 minutes with a fine free-kick, before Park Sun-Ho sealed the win with a 70th-minute header.

An ambitious Pohang boss Hwang Sun-Hong told reporters: "The team did as was expected, we want to play ACL this year and we're ready for Fifa Club World Cup this year."

Pohang are in Group E and will face Gamba Osaka, Bunyodkor and Adelaide United.

Asamoah was named in Ghana's provisional squad for the just ended Africa Cup of Nations but was dropped for the finals.
