Deulofeu sets out his targets

Gerard Deulofeu hopes he can impress Watford boss Javi Gracia in 2019/20 by building on the 12 goals he scored for the Hornets last term.

The 25-year-old Spaniard is focused on being more consistent this season as most of his best displays last term came against sides that were eventually relegated from the Premier League.

Deulofeu, who played for Barcelona, Everton, Sevilla and AC Milan before moving to Vicarage Road in an £11.3million deal in June 2018, said: "I scored 12 goals last season but I can score more.

"In some periods of the season I missed chances but I hope this time I can score more than 12 goals. However, I think the best thing is to help the team take three points and achieve something special with Watford.

"Before I came here I thought a lot about being a forward and spoke with Javi Gracia and, all last season, I played up front. I felt really good there and I want to keep playing up front because I feel near the goal, I feel much better than on the wing.

"I got chances against big teams last season but I have to be more clinical.

"In all the teams where I have been, I didn't stay a lot of time. I travelled to Milan, Everton, Sevilla, Barcelona, now I feel comfortable here. It's a new position, but I feel really comfortable."

It is nine weeks since Watford were thrashed 6-0 at Wembley by Manchester City in the FA Cup final, but they are 11/4 to finish in the top half of the Premier League table this season and 10/11 to beat Brighton on the opening weekend of the campaign.
