Stephan El Shaarawy expressed his delight at his move to Roma from AC Milan and says he aims to prove Italian football wrong.

The 23-year-old was farmed out to Ligue 1 outfit AS Monaco for the first half of the campaign but his loan was curtailed and the Giallorossi moved swiftly to secure his services.

“I spoke to [Alessandro] Florenzi before arriving and he reassured me that I would be fine,” the Italian told the club’s official website.

“The coach asked me how I was, I was excited to come to Rome.

“I have had some problems in the last six months, I have so much to prove to myself, the coach and to Italian football.”

The winger was also quizzed about his potential role in Luciano Spalletti’s side.

“I prefer to play on the left,” added El Shaarawy.

“I like to start off and then drift inside.

“However, the important thing is to find consistency in matches.

“I want to work with dedication and humility.”
