EXCLUSIVE: Ghanaian centre-back Marcel Appiah completes Birmingham Legion FC move
Marcel Appiah has resumed training with NEC Nijmegen

Ghanaian centre-back Marcel Appiah has completed a switch to American second-tier side Birmingham Legion FC, GHANASoccernet.com can exclusively confirm.

Appiah was on trial at German lower-tier side VfB Lübeck after leaving VfL Osnabrück in the summer.

The 30-year-old guardsman was offered a contract at the club after impressing the club's hierarchy during the trials but turned it down and opted to join the fast-rising American United Soccer League outfit ahead of the new season.

He signed a multi-year contract with the Alabama-based outfit, pending completion of a P1 visa and an International Transfer Certificate (ITC).

Appiah becomes the second Ghaniana to join the club after former Inter Allies midfielder Prosper Kasim.

He was born to a Ghanaian father and an Italian mother in Schwelm, and his uncle is a former Italian soccer player and current German politician.

Appiah has played for clubs such as Schalke 04, Arminia Bielefeld and NEC Nijmegen.
