Fiorentina defender desperate to stay at club

Despite only being a squad member this season, Manuel Pasqual is hopeful he can remain at Fiorentina past the end of the season.

Pasqual has made over 350 appearances for La Viola but since the arrival of coach Paulo Sousa last summer, the Italian has seen his playing time reduced and his contract is due to expire next month.

“One year ago I’d never have thought I would be at the end of my adventure with Fiorentina, a team I have always given my all for,” Pasqual told reporters.

“I just hope that Sunday is not my last game at the Franchi, because if I had my way I’d stay. I’m waiting for the club, but so far there has been no indication that I will get another year.

“After 11 years I don’t have to prove my commitment to the club to anyone. We’ll see.”

Fiorentina take on Palermo at home this weekend before facing Lazio in their last game of the season which could be the final two matches of Pasqual’s Viola career.
