Head coach of FK QarabaÄ Gurban Gurbanov has shot down expectations on Kwabena Owusu, insisting that he needs time to adapt to their playing style after the Ghanaian debut display against Neftci Baku on Saturday.
The 22-year-old joined QarabaÄ FK on a three-and-a-half-year contract from Spanish LaLiga side CD Leganes during the winter transfer window.
He was given his debut in the side's derby clash against bitterest adversaries Neftci Baku in Week 16 of the Azerbaijani top-flight league.
But he failed to produce a goal in the 20 minutes he was on the pitch.
However, coach Gurbanov says the Ghana international needs time to adapt to his team’s play.
“It was his first game. He need time for adaptation. He joined the game quickly (71 min.) and made a one shoot. The expectations is great from him. He played 20 minutes and it's hard to talk about his performance.”
He scored six goals in 17 appearances on loan at Segunda B side Córdoba CF during the first half of the season.
Owusu has played three matches for the Black Stars since his debut in 2019.
