Former board member of Asante Kotoko Bernard Akwesi Xiel has lambasted club's CEO George Amoah following his claim that they are no longer interested in the services of AshantiGold trio.

The Porcupine Warriors want to augment their squad after qualifying to the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup for the first time in 11-years.

Coach C.K Akunnor has identified Safiu Mumuni, James Akaminko and Richard Djodi of AshantiGold as the men he needs to strengthen his squad ahead of their involvement in the group phase of Africa inter-club competition.

But as Kumasi-based side wait for a response on their proposal, some top officials of the Miners have resorted to the media to name prize tag for the trio - a situation which infuriated Asante Kotoko CEO Mr. Amoako to declare that his outfit will no longer pursue the players.

However, Mr Xiel has descended heavily on the George Amoako and posited that the club need the trio to make a great impact in the competition hence they should not back out from the negotiation.

"I think the interview granted by Mr George Amoako (CEO of Kotoko) was needless to respond to Dr Kwaku Frimpong's price tag on AshantiGold players," Mr. Xiel stated on Ashh FM.

"Mr George Amoako shouldn't be too emotional on the issue else he will hurt Kotoko team and it's supporters with his words because Kotoko need the players to beef up our team to win the Confederation Cup."

"I will plead with the supporters of Kotoko to be calm because Kotoko and AshantiGold SC is one big family so they shouldn't cause anything bad between the teams."

"Kotoko's aim is to win the CAF Confederation Cup so both teams should settle the issue peacefully so that the players can come and help Kotoko to achieve their ambitions."

Kotoko are keen to fortify their squad after being drawn against Zambian sides Zesco United and Nkana as well as Sudanese side Al Hilal.

Kotoko will open their campaign with an away trip to Libya to square off against Al Hilal on Sunday, February 3.
