Gabbiadini: I didn’t even have to think about my Sampdoria return

Sampdoria have welcomed Manolo Gabbiadini back to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris and the Italy international says he didn’t even have to consider returning.

Despite a promising start to life in the Premier League with Southampton, Gabbiadini, who played for Napoli between lining up for Samp and Saints, had a largely troubled time on the pitch in England.

“When you go away you never think about returning,” the forward said to Il Secolo XIX.

“It was a positive experience that allowed me to grow and I would do it again but, in the end, it went the way it did.

“I left [Samp] on very good terms and when there was an opportunity to return I didn’t have to think about it for a minute.”

Despite a difficult time towards the end of his Southampton stay, the 27-year-old has fond memories of his time there.

“I’ll take many things from it,” he added.

“I scored twice in the 2017 Cup final.

“In the last two years there have been a lot of important moments and I have a wonderful relationship with the fans.”
