Gambling companies set to dominate Ghana's Premier League sponsorship deals

Gambling companies will dominate Premier League main shirt sponsorship deals in the 2017/18 season, with more than half of Ghana's top-flight clubs sporting the logos of betting and online gambling companies.

As many as NINE top-flights sides are expected to be sponsored by betting companies to signal their dominance on the local terrain.

GHANAsoccernet.com revealed on Wednesday that Soccabet is the latest gambling company to venture into the local market as they eye an association with as many as SIX Ghanaian clubs.

Ebusua Dwarfs, Wa All Stars, Inter Allies and Berekum Chelsea are expected to sport the logos of Soccabet ahead of the new season.

League champions Aduana Stars as well as Medeama, Ashantigold and Liberty Professionals will display Betway while Dreams FC will be kit by Mybet.

There have been a remarkable rise in the number of betting companies interested in sponsoring Premier League clubs in Ghana over the past one year with Ashantigold opening the floodgate after their association with Betway.

Now it appears second-tier and lower division sides are all courting sponsorship from gambling companies as they struggle to stay afloat amid the crippling financial challenges.

It's unclear if the Ghana FA will ban the growing phenomenal amid fears of a ‘hidden epidemic’ of addiction and protect children from early exposure to gambling.
