Genoa v Frosinone – Preview: Resurgent Grifone meet relegation defiant Canarini

Published on: 01 April 2016

Genoa will host Frosinone at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Sunday afternoon, as Serie A play resumes following the international break.

Prior to the stop in domestic fixtures, Genoa saw themselves lose out 3-1 to Napoli at the San Paolo despite taking an early lead, whilst Frosinone put in a steely performance to draw 0-0 against Fiorentina.

Roberto Stellone’s men have picked up the pace in recent weeks and are only one point from safety following a 2-0 win at home to Udinese after having won against Empoli by a 2-1 scoreline.

However, that victory against Empoli was the Ciociari’s first away from home all season and they have only been able to pick up five points on the road in total, a league low, which leaves worries ahead of their upcoming game.

Frosinone’s status as underdog for this game is further underlined by the fact that Genoa have a very decent record at home and have not lost at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris in almost three months, climbing up the table from 17th to 12th. In fact, a win could take them all the way up to 10th, which would be their highest standing of the season since the second match day.

The reverse fixture could perhaps even be a result that the visitors might come to regret at the end of the season, as they failed to hold on to a 2-1 lead at the Stadio Matusa against a ten man Genoa side that had already had defender Sebastien De Maio sent off, going on to draw 2-2 to the Grifone.

Whilst the table looks more rosy for Genoa fans coach Gian Piero Gasperini has got a number of major injury doubts ahead of the game.

Cristian Ansaldi is already sidelined for the face-off and Alessio Cerci, Leonardo Pavoletti, Nicolas Burdisso and Giovanni Marchese are all additional doubts, with their fitness set to be tested at the last minute.

Roberto Stellone on the other hand has no major injury problems and is likely to name a full strength team.
