Ghana assuage John Mensah injury fears

Ghana captain John Mensah's injury at the Africa Cup of Nations is not serious as initially feared, GHANAsoccernet.com can confirm.

Mensah suffered a thigh injury during Ghana's opening day 1-0 win over outsiders Botswana in Franceville on Tuesday.

Further checks were run in Libreville on Wednesday where it was revealed he suffered contusion on his muscle.

A muscle tear could have kept him on the sidelines for a lengthy spell.

"His recovery will depend on the player and how he avails himself for treatment. We are working on him," Black Stars team doctor Dr Percy Annan told GHANAsoccernet.com

"How soon he gets fit also depends on blood clot in the thigh. He will be fine."

If he recovers in time, he should be available for selection for Ghana final Group D match against Guinea.

Mensah has been suspended for the Black Stars next match on Saturday after receiving a straight red card.
