Ghana CHAN coach blames inadequate training

Coach Herbert Addo has rubbed salt into the wounds of Ghanaians claiming that the country’s ‘inadequate’ two-week camp in Kenya is to blame for the local Black Stars’ woeful performance at the African Nations Championship.

The local Black Stars bombed out of the tournament in Sunday when losing 1-0 to lowly Niger, finishing bottom of Group B with no points.

Ghana also lost disgracefully to South Africa’s national team C as well as the politically ravaged Zimbabwe in the earlier group games.

Many fans have condemned the coach for bad tactics and poor player selection after the country finished second in the maiden tournament in Ivory Coast two years ago.

Ex-Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac did not have the benefit of a two-week training tour yet he managed to help the country to reach the final.

But coach Herbert Addo whose team was sent to Kenya to prepare and acclimatise says the time in the East African country was not enough.

“The two weeks camping in Kenya was not sufficient,” Herbert Addo said in the post match press conference.

“The team is young and we needed to play together for a longer time before the tournament.”

According to Fifa laws players must be released from their clubs for international tournament two weeks before the competition starts.
