Ghana FA prepared to give up the chase on Danny Welbeck

The Ghana Football Association says it is prepared to close the docket on youngster Danny Welbeck after he made his England debut on Tuesday against the West Africans.

The 20-year-old confirmed he held talks with an official of the Ghana FA last month over a possible switch but still responded to Fabio Capello's late call to join the Three Lions.

Welbeck was born in Manchester by Ghanaian parents and has already England at youth level.

He was booed by the Ghana fans when the Manchester United youngster, who is having an excellent season on loan at Sunderland, came on as second half substitute.

Ghana FA vice-president Fred Pappoe fears the youngster has not got a future with England.

"I felt sorry for him and I hope they are going to make good use of him and they will not dump him after this game," Pappoe told Joy FM.

"I wonder whether he really took a lot time to reflect over the issue because what I know is that he was just given an invitation about 24 hours to the game and I dont think one make a very good choice within such period of time but it's his career so I wish him the best.

"It is absolutely not a loss. Ghana does not run short of talent. We don't have any shortage of talents. We have talents all over the place if Danny decides to play for England fair enough for him."

Welbeck is still eligible to play for Ghana if does not feature in any competitive match for England before turning 23.
