Ghana FA signs contract with Fifa for academy

The Ghana Football Association has finalized a US$ 403,000 contract with Fifa to construct a football academy in the West African country.

The contract, which is the Fifa Goal IV Project, will be sited at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.

Of the amount, US$ 380,000 will be paid to the contractor and US$ 22,00 to the be consultant and the Ghana federation will bear the remainder.

The project will be completed in eight months.

Ghana FA president Kwesi Nyantakyi siad: "We want to give practical mean to football and education. Already, we have started that with women's and that is why the Under-17s and Under-20s are made of girls who are in schools or have been to school."

"We will select the best Under-12 and Under-15 children for the academy and education them. For those in management, you know that it's easy to manage a player who is educated."

Last month the Ghana Football Association commissioned the Goal III Project, which is a newly built multi-purpose dining and conference facility plus kitchen at Prampram.

The technical centre at Prampram was built with funding from the Goal I Project which was a grant of $400,000 whiles the funds for Goal II Project was invested in the House of Football - the headquarters of the Ghana Football Association in Accra.
