Ghana handed massive boost by Gyan's return to training

Striker Asamoah Gyan took part in the full training session of the Black Stars to give Ghana a massive boost ahead of the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.

The 26-year-old has made a quicker than expected progress with treatment on a hamstring injury and joined up with his national teammates to undergo full scale training on Saturday morning.

The Al Ain striker was in a three hour therapy session on Friday with Serbian expert Mariana Kovacevic after which he was given the all clear to begin full scale training.

Ghana's friendly game with South Africa on Sunday might come too early for Gyan but his return to training will certainly serve a massive lift to the Black Stars who aim to end a 30-year wait for an African title in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

He will continue to receive treatment and be monitored in the next few days before his physical conditioning is given the full seal of approval.

New Edubiase striker Emmanuel Baffour has been put on stand-by in case there is a relapse and Gyan fails to make a full recovery from the injury.

Caf will grant Ghana's permission to replace any injured player 24hours to it's first game against Botswana on January 24.

The Black Stars will also face Mali and Guinea in Group D where all the games will be played in the Gabonese city of Franceville.
